BEIJING:
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed their strong partnership during high-level talks in Beijing on Wednesday, emphasizing what both leaders described as an “unyielding” relationship between China and Russia.
The meeting came only days after US President Donald Trump visited China in an effort to strengthen ties and discuss major regional issues, including tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
Xi welcomed Putin at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People with a formal ceremony that included an honour guard, a gun salute, and children waving the flags of both nations. The two leaders later held closed-door discussions and were also expected to meet privately over tea.
China and Russia Strengthen Strategic Partnership
During the opening session of talks, both leaders praised the long-standing cooperation between their countries and agreed to extend their treaty of “friendly cooperation.”
Xi Jinping described China-Russia relations as stable, strategic, and resistant to outside pressure.
Meanwhile, Putin said Moscow highly values its partnership with Beijing and remains committed to deepening cooperation in trade, energy, security, and global diplomacy.
The visit is being closely watched by international observers, especially after Donald Trump’s recent trip to China ended without major breakthroughs on key geopolitical concerns.
