WASHINGTON:
US President Donald Trump has said the ongoing tensions with Iran could come to an end “very quickly” as political pressure increases in Washington over America’s military role in the region.
Speaking during a White House gathering attended by lawmakers, Trump claimed the United States was moving fast toward preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons while also seeking a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
“Iran wants a deal badly because they are exhausted from the situation,” Trump said.
He stressed that the US would not allow Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons under any circumstances.
“They have nuclear ambitions, and we are not going to let that happen,” Trump stated.
Trump also praised recent US efforts in the region, saying progress had been made and that the conflict could soon be resolved without further escalation.
“We’ve made significant progress, and hopefully this issue will be resolved very soon in a peaceful and proper way,” he added.
US Senate Moves to Restrict Military Action
At the same time, the Republican-led US Senate voted to advance a War Powers Resolution designed to limit presidential authority for military action against Iran unless Congress formally approves it.
The move highlights growing concern among American lawmakers over the president’s power to launch or expand military operations without direct congressional authorization.
Political analysts believe the debate could shape future US foreign policy decisions in the Middle East, especially as tensions with Iran continue to dominate global headlines.
