Pakistan Intensifies Iran-US Peace Efforts as Fresh Talks Begin in Tehran
Pakistan Expands Diplomatic Efforts Between Iran and the US
Pakistan has increased its diplomatic engagement to help ease tensions between Iran and the United States, as fears grow over a possible collapse of the fragile ceasefire between the two countries.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran for the second time within a week, carrying what diplomatic sources described as an important message aimed at reviving stalled negotiations.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, Pakistan is actively working as a communication bridge between Tehran and Washington. However, major disagreements continue to delay progress, especially on Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, security in the Strait of Hormuz, and regional military concerns.
Trump Says Talks Near Final Stage
US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Iran were approaching their “final stages.” At the same time, he warned that military action could resume if an agreement is not achieved within a limited period.
Iranian officials responded by warning that any renewed confrontation could spread beyond the Middle East. Despite the tough statements, Tehran maintained that diplomatic solutions were still possible.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly told Pakistani officials that all channels for dialogue remain open if both sides show seriousness in negotiations.
Pakistan’s Growing Role in Regional Diplomacy
During his visit, Mohsin Naqvi held meetings with senior Iranian leadership, including President Pezeshkian and military officials, focusing on efforts to preserve peace and prevent another regional crisis.
Political observers believe Pakistan is trying to position itself as a neutral mediator capable of reducing tensions between the two rivals. Reports have also sparked speculation that Pakistan’s military leadership could become more directly involved in future diplomatic contacts.
Challenges Facing the Negotiations
Despite positive diplomatic engagement, several issues continue to complicate the process. Iranian circles reportedly remain cautious about Pakistan’s close relations with Gulf Arab countries and Washington.
At the same time, officials in Islamabad are monitoring Iran’s growing ties with India, particularly following recent regional meetings involving Brics nations.
Analysts say these factors could make mediation more difficult, even though both Pakistan and Iran continue to maintain friendly bilateral relations.
Saudi Arabia Supports Pakistan’s Mediation
Saudi Arabia has publicly welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud praised the ongoing diplomatic initiatives and encouraged Iran to take advantage of negotiations to avoid further escalation.
He also stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive agreement that could help secure long-term peace and stability in the Middle East and protect global energy routes from disruption.
