Trump Urges Patience as US-Iran Talks Continue Toward Potential Agreement
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that American negotiators should not rush into reaching an agreement with Iran, despite recent indications that both sides may be nearing a breakthrough.
In a message shared on social media, Trump described the ongoing discussions as “constructive” but emphasized that any deal must be carefully negotiated. He stated that both countries should take the necessary time to ensure that any agreement serves their long-term interests and promotes regional stability.
The latest diplomatic efforts reportedly focus on extending a temporary ceasefire for 60 days, reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, and launching a new round of negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear activities. While progress has been reported, several major issues remain unresolved.
Iranian officials have also acknowledged the mixed outlook of the talks. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei suggested that an agreement appears both close and distant at the same time, highlighting the complexity of the discussions and the challenges that still need to be addressed.
Reports indicate that the proposal currently under consideration would act as an interim arrangement rather than a comprehensive settlement. Key matters expected to be discussed in future negotiations include the removal of economic sanctions on Iran, the release of frozen Iranian assets, and international concerns surrounding Tehran’s nuclear program.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed cautious optimism while speaking to reporters in New Delhi. He noted that a credible framework exists that could help restore maritime access through the Strait of Hormuz while opening the door to meaningful, time-limited negotiations over nuclear-related issues.
The emerging proposal has generated debate within American political circles. Some Republican lawmakers have expressed concerns that the framework may offer excessive concessions to Iran, while supporters argue that continued diplomacy is the best path toward reducing tensions and avoiding further conflict in the region.
Although no final agreement has been announced, both Washington and Tehran appear committed to keeping diplomatic channels open. Observers believe the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the current momentum can lead to a broader and more lasting understanding between the two countries.
